Lost: One 50″ Plasma TV.

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

A week ago last Sunday as I was watching the latest going’s on in Iran on CNN, when our Sumsung Plasma TV took a ginormous krep. It started by doing some weird triangular pixalation from right to left on the screen. At first I thought this was due to the HD cable channels. We’ve had some issues on the HD channels recently so I flipped over to analog and it was doing the same thing. Not good, not good at all. I thought maybe it was still the cable company’s fault (sorry Van, it’s NEVER Comcast’s fault LOL) and decided I would power cycle the modem to see if that would rectify the situation. But before I could get my a$$ of the sofa and unplug it, the whole screen went blank. Deep dark blank. Nooooooooooooo!!elevenses!! What the h*ll am I supposed to do now? Kaos without a TV is like a day without sunshine or a normal day up here from December to April. So I went to bed hoping the plasma pixies would come during the night and when I awoke the TV would be good as new. I got up and the first thing I did was check the TV, deader than a liberal’s economic policies. FAIL!!!11! I then called the Geek Squad, a perfect name, no? They asked all the pertinent questions to ensure I was who I said I was and informed me the next service call available was Thursday. I questioned why it would take so long and they said that they were booked until then. Probably because of a rash of service calls on plasma TV’s I thought to myself. I responded to the Techie that somebody will be here at the appointed time, I’m always here. Where I’m I gonna go? Don’t they know I never leave my house except for beer and golf? Sheesh, some people. Well back to the story, the service guy comes and runs a bunch of tests on it. Menu screen, nothing, diagnostic screen, nothing. He then logs on to the Samsung website and does some more research. Still nothing. Then he starts a live chat with them and lo and behold the entire TV is shot. Great, this is gonna cost me, I know it. He goes into my account and checks to see what warranty I have on the TV. Well guess what, this is to all you people who scoff at buying extended warranties, BLOW ME. Everything is covered until August 2010. If I didn’t have this it would have cost me over $1100 dollars to fix it. Yes, $1100. Oh yeah, guess what the fix is? That’s right, a whole new TV. Ok, now we have a solution to the problem which leads to another problem, when are they going get me the new TV. The techie calls his dispatch to find out when it will arrive and he states like it’s just another day at the park, July 7th. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! 11 friggin more days without my electronic brain. I reluctantly agree to the timetable and wonder what I’m gonna do for 11 days, what about my wife and Food TV and my daughter and ICarly, me and the Hitler channel? Here’s some things I’ve learned.

  1. You can listen to Sports Center on ESPN and pretty much get the same satisfaction level.
  2. I’m going to bed much earlier than before, hence no need for the midday nap session.
  3. I would kill myself if the same thing happened to my computer.
  4. Hulu rocks..

One more thing…Updated

Friday, June 5th, 2009

While I was unable to post anything over the last few weeks, I do have some upbeat news. Well, at least it is for me and the family. The Suburban is officially mine because we got the title delivered last week. This might be a technicality once the Messiah and his cronies deem my vehicle to be the incorrect variety and force me to buy one from the newly create Government Motors.

**Update**

Well, my prediction was not far from the truth at all.

Blogroll Updated

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

I finally got around to updating the blogroll. It’s amazing how fast blogs can come and go. Hopefully, all the links are fixed but you never know.

Eugene Rant

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

I was browsing around the intertubes the other day when I came across a post at Dissecting Leftism about a guy who was “fed up with the Leftist pretenses at mourning on the anniversary(Hiroshima Day to us in the sticks-ed) and wants to mount a counter-demonstration”. Sorry about that run-on sentence btw. Lo and behold he’s from my neck of the woods, albeit a bit farther south but still close by. I go over to his site and it’s a motherlode of right thinking bloggers all from the NW. Jackpot! To tell you the truth the way politics up here, I thought I was one of the handful left. Based on this I’ve decide, his site has been immediately added to the permenent blogroll. All three of you who visit here, please welcome Eugene Rant to the Kaos Theory.

Added a Couple to the Blogroll

Monday, July 21st, 2008

I’ve a added 2 local bloggers to the blogroll. When I mean local, I mean five house down from mine local.  First is, Stuff Jen Says. Jen is a lunatic and I mean that in an entirely positive way.  The second is my friend Rob’s site, Burnin Daylight, he’s a lunatic too. Stop over and say Hi!

Update #2

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

Well, I finally got the newest version of WordPress to work correctly. The only problems being that all my customizations except the Random Header were lost and there’s something wacky with my blogroll. There seems to be a picture stuck right in the middle of where the Global-Trekker’s travel link was. In the old days I could login to the server where my site is hosted change the permissions on the file with chmod, go to the WordPress dashboard and edit the sidebar or index file. Since my host moved me to a new server, I have to go thru their “file manager” utility to edit the files. The only problem being is when I look at the actual sidebar code, I can’t find the code associated with that image. I’m stumped, not to mention the code is PHP which I’m vaguely familiar with. What would Chuck Norris do? Hmmmmmm.

Update

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

If you think the blog has looked a little wonky, it’s because I upgrade to a newer version of WordPress. Upgrade is actually a misnomer, it should really be called “How to fuck up your blog in one easy lesson”. I’ve still got work to do because some of the wonderful plugins I had before don’t function with the new release. Great QA guys! One redeeming factor is I now have the ability to embed videos in my posts, so you are going to see some new categories like “War Pr0n” and “Stupid Things, Stupid People”.

Over 10,000 Comments…..

I Got Nothing

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

Sorry for the lack of any type of posting these last few weeks. I mean I could post something about Cheesehead Todd and his myopic views of College football but how much of that can my readers(all 2 of you) really take? I could write about my daughters first day of kindergarten I suppose, which would force my reading population down to zero. I could talk about the insane people who live in Oregon but every state seems to have this type of person, kind of redundant. I could write about my fantasy football team but who really gives a rat’s ass if I start Braylon Edwards over Isaac Bruce? I could rant about the idiots who designed bread and toy packaging. Actually, I will rant about that. Who decided between that little twisty thing and that little plastic doohickeys(sp) to cinch up a loaf of bread? Neither of which work worth a damn if you are trying to keep the bread from turning into a penicillin factory. Not to mention once you do open the bread up you invariably lose the fastener. I mean come on, I open it up, put it on the counter and Voila! where did that friggin thing go? Hanging out with that missing sock I suppose. Feel better? I do. OK now on the the subject of toy packaging. Who was the asshat that designed these? I need to know because when I find them I’m going to punch him in their big monkey faces. I’m real surprised I haven’t cut all my fingers off trying to extricate the lead based toy from China for my daughter. Once you do get through the titanium plastic part, the next battle is with 4000 twist ties holding the lead based toys from China inside the titanium plastic outer cover. You never thought there would be a connection between bread and toys, did ya? You see, that’s what you get for visiting the Kaos theory. More than likely, absolutely nothing except eye strain by staring at your computer monitor wondering to yourself, WTF am I doing reading this load of carp when I could be cleaning the down stairs bathroom with a toothbrush and listening to Kaajaagoogoo?

Happy Birthday to ME!

Monday, August 20th, 2007

Because you know, in the grand scheme of things. IT IS ALL ABOUT ME!

The Turks are up to something

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

After another periodic search of my sitemeter I’ve come across another weird pattern of visits. It appears the Turks are hell bent on resinking the Titanic albeit a very, very very small version. I’m getting bombarded with hits from Turkey with 99% of the hits to this post I did ages ago. Enough hits to put me as number one and two for google images search of “Titanic on a pin”. Go figure.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine’s day to the lovely wife. I love you!

Email

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

If you’re trying to get me via email, it seems my dndnl@comcast.net is hosed right now. You can use the gmail instead. thekasotheory2005@gmail.com

**Update**

Looks like I maxed out my inbox limit of 250 mb’s. It seems there is a disconnect between Thunderbird and Comcast mail. When I viewed my email thru comcast.net not one of my emails has been deleted since I started using TB 2 years ago. So now I have a shiite load of manual deletions. Hey Ubergeek, you heard of that before?

Updated Photogallery

Monday, January 15th, 2007

I was rummaging through my photos I came across some I’d forgotten about. Click here or over on the sidebar under Pages.

Global-Trekker

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

My buddy KB at Global-trekker has allowed me to post on his site as a contributor. My main focus will be photgraphy, travel and issues relating to such. KB runs a smooth operation and has enormous amounts of travel and photo related items to peruse. I highly suggest a visit to check it out. For me, I’m off camping, boating and fishing this weekend. Probably the last dry weekend of the year so I better take advantage of it. See you(all 2 regular visitors) on Sunday. Hopefully with pics galore.

10,000 Visitors

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

Sometime in the next few hours I will surpass 10,000 hits on this blog. 99,923 looking for the doodlebops, the other 77 being my brother looking to see if I wrote something trully inane and goofy.

New Banner(s)

Friday, May 12th, 2006

I’ve been monkeying around with Photoshop to create new banners for the Blog. What do you think? I’ve heard of plug ins you can use make your banners change each time you visit or hit reload. I’ll need to do some more googling to find the code. Unless any one of the three regular visitors has any ideas?

Update**

I found a plugin that allows for random banners to be displayed. So if you hit reload you will see them. There six of them I create with photoshop. I can tell you it’s easier to modify WordPress than Blogger eventhough I don’t know much about php. Which one do you think is the best and maybe I’ll keep jus that one.

Blogroll

Tuesday, May 9th, 2006

It was alot harder than I thought but I had to manually enter all my links because I 1) couldn’t figure out how to do it and 2) I couldn’t find out where anybody else did either.

Moved to WordPress

Tuesday, May 9th, 2006

I was having nothing but trouble with my Blogger account. Basically I was unable to post anything and their customer service is nothing but a computer generated email which just pissed me off more and more. So I was looking through my hosting services pages and I found that they had WordPress already as an option. So after many attempts I finally imported all my posts from blogger to this new site.

Obsessed with my Site Meter

Thursday, April 13th, 2006

Lately, I’ve been obsessed with checking my SiteMeter stats. Like some narcissist staring at myself in the mirror. It’s cool to think that people from all over the world have passed through the Kaos portal eventhough the don’t stay very long or comment on anything. I’ve been keeping a list of where they are coming from. Most are from the US but I’ve had people from as far away as China, Pakistan, Thailand, Serbia-Montenegro and Guam to mention a few. 99% are looking for the friggin doodlebops or Kajagoogoo pics I used in a post months ago but some come from other sites I’ve done some comments on.

Finally fixed the archives

Saturday, March 25th, 2006

For the longest time, well since 1/1/06, I kept getting the infamous “HTTP 404 not found” error when I clicked the link for Jan – Mar 2006 archives. The weird thing is I could see the files on the server for my posts. So I did some bulletin board diving at my host and found out my answer. In order for the link to work, my archive files needed to be in the public_html folder and not on the root. When I copied the files over, Voila!, they are there. Woo friggin Hoo! I had dreams about this last night so this was the first thing I did this morning.

Trouble with the archives

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

It seems my link to the archives keeps giving me the infamous 404 error. I think I have my blogger archive setting correct. When I check the server to see where the files are housed, www.dndnl.com/archive/2005_10_01_archive.html/, I can see them but when I click on the link, nothing. I contacted Blogger tech support through email, they were as helpful as oven mitts to a safe cracker.

Here are my settings.
Archive url – http://www.dndnl.com/archive/
Archive path – archive/
Archive name – archive.html

Like I stated, I can see the archived post on the server in the correct path. Anybody, I mean, all 2 of you that have been to my site, got any ideas?

Updated BlogRoll

Friday, October 7th, 2005

I’ve updated the blogroll if anybody cares.

I’m Baaaaaaaack!

Friday, October 7th, 2005

It’s been awhile, (cue Aerosmith) but I’m baaaaaaaack! I previously posted at thekaostheory.blogspot.com but I accidently deleted the blog and couldn’t get back in. Therefore I decide to pickup my own domain and start from scratch. It’s been some time since I did this blogging thing but I feel charged up and ready to rant and rave. In the past I dabbled in some politics, news of the weird and personal stuff. This won’t change. One thing changed since I had the old blog is the lack of work. Back in May the company I worked for outsourced the IT functions to India. It’s not as bad as it sounds because I got to take sometime off (decent severance package) and spend some QT with the family. I picked up road bike riding, lost 2 inches around the gut and recharged the batteries. I had some interviews and opened up new contacts but no concrete hits until yesterday when my old boss asked me to come back. Evidently when management let us all go they had not considered the brain drain attached to losing so many experienced people. Not that the Indians couldn’t do the technical work, it was the knowledge of the business they lacked. Looks like I’ll be starting around the first of November with about the same pay, slightly different position, all my previous seniority and the benefits that go with 7 + years experience. Don’t talk to me about private healthcare insurance, you don’t know how expensive it is until you have to go get it.

Update: From the when it rains, it pours file. I couldn’t get a job offer for the life of me but all of a sudden I’m a hot commodity. I received a nice call from a company offering me a position. Two opportunities within 2 days. It’s decision time in the Kaos household. I’ll post something more about this when I make my choice. Life is looking good.
